新生活 New Way of Life

お待たせしました!

Sorry for the wait! Life has been hectic lately.

For those of you who don’t know, I moved shortly after my last post. I used to live in Kyoto prefecture, but now I live in Hyogo Prefecture, in a tiny town close to Himeji. My new town is called Kasai(加西) and is tinier than Fukuchiyama.

I’m also no longer working as an AET, I’m working at an English Conversation School (英会話). It’s a very different world and I still don’t feel comfortable with it yet, but I’m making a lot more money 😀 So that part is nice~ I’m teaching from age 2.5 and up. I even teach lessons on skype now too.

Right after I moved here, there was a big weekend long festival. I was told the original purpose of it was to find out how much rice to plant this year. They used to have chickens fight, but now they just get beak to beak and greet each other. Our town’s portable shrines(神輿) got brought out and paraded around too. We have about 18 of them all together. They’re beautiful and very intricately decorated. Also, apparently quite heavy.

This town is really flat so I bought a bicycle to help me get around. I no longer have a car, so walking and bike is how I get around now.

My apartment is a big upgrade too. It’s older and doesn’t have internet yet, but it’s cheaper than what I was paying and instead of being one tiny room, it’s a 3DK, which means 3 bedrooms + dining room + kitchen. It’s even got one tatami room. I’ve turned one of the rooms into a living room too. Tomorrow or the next day I should finally get my sofa too. Most of these are pictures from before I unpacked, but…

Oh, also, a week ago, or so, one of my fish jumped out of his tank and committed fishy suicide. orz It took a few days to find him since he managed to get himself under the shelf. It’s unfortunate. His tank has not gone to waste though and I now have my first red beta, his name is Piranha Face.

Next weekend I go to Tokyo for the Tenimyu Sports Festival(運動会). Hopefully, there will be another update after I get back 🙂
